I'm helping out on a local project taking place nearby which involves the construction of Thai houses and the surrounding grounds. I thought it would be a good opportunity to post some pictures as the site develops.
Thai builders and their practices in general get a bit of a bashing on the Thai forums, and I'm approaching the whole project with an open mind to see if the 'mud slingers' have grounds for their various woes and moans. Getting a house built in Thailand is not something that should be taken lightly, I'm sure its the same as any commodity in that, generally, you get what you pay for...... In this case the first couple of houses look pretty promising..... Although the houses are only small, the structures look well prepared and the foundations are deep and look strong (although you may disagree, I'm not a builder by any stretch of the imagination).
Another interesting part of the project is this large artificial lake that the development team have dug. The hole is around 3m deep, and I guess around 25m by 25m. The diggers removed the earth and then used the JCB buckets to flatten the sides of this very clay-ey soil... it seems this is enough to hold the water, which was used to fill the bottom of the hole..... Potentially a nice addition to the development when its finished.
I was also witness to the blessing of the owners sign, a customary good luck process in Thailand to help the project to go well.I will keep updated photos of the houses as they develop.
