We stayed at a cheapish hotel in Cha Am not too long ago. Here is a fantastic view from the window.
Unforutunately, this was a picture I took from the room across the corridor (the door was open and room was vacant). This was our view.
Not so spectacular I think you'll agree (but still, bundles of character). This example is typical of how many of these Thai beach resorts develop; packed lines of buildings along the sea shore, with vast tracts of vacant land behind them, with long, straight and occasionally very busy roads leading up to the main sukhumvit.
A favourite conversation between farangs often takes the line of 'one day that land will be worth fortunes' and 'we should buy lots of it now' etc etc.
Perfectly true, probably, although I'm sure the land prices are not as low as some might like to believe ....
I'm no expert, but I do think Cha-Am is an excellent investment area for those with the resources...I mean, look at all that land.... one day that will be worth fortunes blah etc.

Sukhumvit is the main road when you're east of Bangkok, the main road in Cha-Am is the Phetkasem.

Ben if the Thais changed the rules on land ownership it MIGHT be a good investment.
Personally I would look around the Gulf coast further South. It is CHEAP but of course the bloody rules forbid me buying any.
I am afraid the like of Ch-am and Hua Hin just don't appeal-to many foreigners :-)

Hi Mike, thanks for the comment, the land ownership thing, there's ways round it, no? Crikey the amount of falangs I've met buying up land everywhere, I've always thought there must be, although I don't have any personal experience of buying land in LOS myself. I've always thought the close proximity of Cha.Am / Hua Hin to BKK would be a bonus (or maybe not LOL)

Any room with a view of Thailand is a very good thing to me.
There is still cheap land to be found in Thailand but we will never really be able to own.
I don't fault the Thai's for this stance though because I have seen what foreign investment has done to America.
