I always wonder how fast new constructions are finished in Thailand. Maybe it's because I am only there once a year, but every time I am surprised to see a completely new street or a new building which at the last visit had nothing. And then there are also those abandoned highrises still left from the Asian crisis, or the Skytrain extension which took almost 10 years for a few kilometers.

Indeed Andy, it seems everyone is building a hotel / apartment block somewhere in Bangkok these days. I admit I am interested to see how quickly it will take to build. An uneducated guess? I reckon they'll be putting the finishing touches to it this time next year..... Maybe someone with a better knowledge of construction will have a better stab at it?

One wonders just how much more building can be done when the economy and tourism are down so much.

There are still remnants of the 1997 crash standing all over Bangkok in various states of decay from when the building stopped then.

I think the financial stuff thats been going on must have definitely slowed things down; the development in the picture is along the Chao Phraya, so nice real estate.... Many investors / developers are probably at a stage where so much has been put in pre-2008 that it maybe too late to go back... hoping that it will all come good again in the months to come.

That's what always has been quite fascinating to me. Thai people build fast. In my country it takes ages to build anything, partly because they run out of money every now and again. Anyway, great post!

Thanks BB, will keep you updated.
